Masters 45+

Lets start with Devils Punch Bowl RR, the riders there were Robb,Taylor,Alan,John & Tom. As always thinks split on the first climb with Alan & Tom making the split. On the sec lap the split was made again leaving Alan with two other riders finishing the 3rd lap. Alan got 17th Tom 19 John 23rd Robb 27 Taylor 29.  Sun was the Chuck Pontius Crit with just Taylor and myself attending. Plan was to rotate covering everything, well that went out the window as the gun sounded an Taylor rode up the road. As soon as he was caught 6 laps later, Thurlow countered and I happen to be at the right place at the right time. Jumping on with three others we caught the field with 3-laps remaining. Thurlow jumped away from us so just four left. I got third in the sprint but ride of the day was Taylor bridging up to two riders in between our break an the field. I got 4th and Taylor 8th. San Luis RR was our next get-together that included Robb, Dave, Dennis, Alan,Tom, John, Joe and our return of Doug. Many moves were covered along with many attacks, on lap 4 Doug made the move with Thurlow & Leibert with Doug taking 3rd (Great Return) Alan got 8th, Tom was 10th, I got 11th but they missed the placing. Dennis, Dave & Robb came in right behind the field. Three in the top-10 was a good showing there. Dana Point was on Sun and the roster there was Steve, Robb,Taylor ,John, Tom and Alan. We got in a couple breaks but nothing stuck, Alan made a great move with 6 laps to go but not enough horsepower to stay, moved Taylor up as far as we could but he did not have the lead-out he needed to win a race like that. Taylor – 15th John – 17th Robb, Steve and Alan in with the field. Next up is Bakersfield Crit May 15th.

Cat 3s

The Cat 3 team continues to grow & work together as a team.  In April the team concentrated its efforts on the Redlands & CycloVets Criteriums.  The CA Pools team was an active participant in each race and could be seen working in a break or chasing one down.  Although we aren’t the strongest team out there (yet!) we are starting to get noticed for our willingness to work.  In both races we were able to help keep team leader Ben P. fresh and he came through with a 5th at Redlands and a 4th at Cyclovets where he won the field sprint.  We’re looking forward to good results this upcoming month at Dana Point.  We also want to wish fellow Cat 3 Raul Cortez a quick recovery from a minor hip injury he suffered while trying out some Cyclecross moves during the Fiesta Island training crit.

Cat 4s

The month of April was busy for the CAT 4 CA Pools DeWalt team. Brad Ballreich and Mike Finlay finished 27th and 28th respectively. The following week at CycloVets Brad went down in a large crash with one lap to go injuring his shoulder. Mike Finlay finished 27th with a flat tire. Tom Rogers finished 7th at the Anteater Cedric Kohler finished 15th and Jake Gigler finished 28th.

Cat 5s

April CAT 5 Recap

  • Redlands – Was a really fun race!  Only 3 or 4 riders made it up to the race.  Jake taking 7th, Rod taking 14th and Rich Mendez making his CAT 5 debut at this race.
  • CycloVets – We had a great showing at the CycloVets race, in the first race, 5 team members lined up with Michael Cleveland taking a 2nd place podium finish.  By the second CAT 5 race at the end of the day, the wind was really blowing – the team finished with 5 CA Pools riders in the top 20
